Frequently asked questions
What should I know before sharing one of these?
That the export looks like a real screenshot. There is no label on it, so nothing in the image itself tells a viewer the conversation was typed rather than captured. A fabricated DM attributed to a named person is a well known misinformation format, so keep these to illustration work: slides, case studies, tutorials, portfolio pieces, and say plainly that they are mockups anywhere they could be mistaken for evidence. The tool leaves out the two things that most cheaply make a fake convincing, a real profile photo and a verified badge, but the rest is your call.
What do people illustrate with the Instagram version?
Creator-outreach training and pitch decks. Showing an agency client what a good first DM looks like next to a bad one, walking through a rate negotiation in a course, drawing the DM half of a campaign brief, or building portfolio pieces where a real conversation could not be shown without permission.
Does the output look exactly like Instagram?
No, and it is not meant to. You get a stylised palette and bubble shape that read as Instagram at a glance, and nothing else: no header bar, no icons, no logo, no typeface copied from the app, no read receipts and no verified badge. Cloning an app’s exact interface is a trademark problem, and it is also precisely the part that makes a fabricated screenshot believable. An illustration in a slide does not need it.
Can I use a creator’s avatar?
No. There is no image upload of any kind, no way to pull a picture in from a handle, and no verified badge. Avatars are generated from the display name you type: initials on a colour derived from that name, so the same name always gets the same colour. A real photo is the single detail that makes a fabricated conversation convincing, which is why it is absent. For deck and tutorial work a placeholder is what you want anyway, because the point is the shape of the exchange.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The image is drawn in your browser with a canvas and downloaded straight from the page. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged, there are no network requests, and no account is needed.
