Instagram Highlight Cover Maker — Free Tool
Pick a gradient, an icon, a letter or an emoji, and download a 1080×1920 Story-sized PNG that crops correctly into a circular Instagram highlight cover.
The dashed circle is roughly what Instagram keeps. It is a preview guide and is never drawn into the download.
Post the PNG as a Story, then open the highlight, tap Edit Highlight, then Edit Cover, and pick that Story. Instagram crops the circle from the centre of the frame, which is why the file is 1080x1920 and not a square.
The cover is drawn on a canvas in this page and the PNG is produced in your browser. There is no network request, no account and nothing stored.

Frequently asked questions
What size is an Instagram highlight cover?
1080×1920, which is a Story. Instagram has no upload-a-cover field: you post the image as a Story and Instagram crops a circle from the middle of that frame. Exporting a 1080×1080 square is the common mistake, because it gets scaled and repositioned, which is why so many covers end up off-centre or cut.
Why does the preview show a dashed circle?
That circle is roughly what Instagram keeps when it crops the cover. Anything outside it is background: still visible while the image is a live Story, but not on the highlight itself. The circle is a preview guide only and is never drawn into the PNG you download.
How do I set the cover on Instagram?
Post the PNG as a Story, then open the highlight and choose Edit Highlight, then Edit Cover, and pick that Story from your archive. You can also add the Story to the highlight first and then select it as the cover. Instagram accepts a cover no other way.
Can I use a letter or an emoji instead of an icon?
Yes. Switch the mark to Letter or Emoji and type one or two characters. Letters are drawn in the same typeface as the rest of the page, and emoji use your device's own emoji font, so the export matches the preview on that device.
Is my design uploaded anywhere?
No. The cover is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the PNG is produced there. There is no network request, no account and nothing stored. Nothing about the design leaves your device.
