Frequently asked questions
Does it stretch my image to fit each size?
No. Every output is cover-fit: the image is scaled up until it fills the target box, and whatever hangs over the edge is cropped away. The aspect ratio is never altered, so nothing looks squashed or elongated.
My subject keeps getting cut off in the tall crops. Can I fix that?
Yes — each output has its own crop position. A centre crop is the default and works for most photos, but for portraits and anything with a head near the top of the frame, switch that output to Top. Bottom is there for images whose subject sits low.
Should I choose JPEG or PNG?
JPEG at quality 0.92 is the default and is right for photographs — far smaller files at effectively the same visible quality. Choose PNG for graphics, screenshots, logos and anything with flat colour, hard edges or text, where JPEG compression shows artefacts.
Why does a big photo still look sharp after resizing?
A single huge downscale in a browser canvas discards most of the source pixels and looks aliased. This tool halves the image repeatedly until it is within 2x of the target, then does the final draw, with high-quality smoothing on at every step.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole thing runs on a canvas in your browser — the file never leaves your device, there is no server round-trip and no account is needed.
