Frequently asked questions
Why not divide by subscribers?
Because a YouTube video reaches far beyond its subscriber base through browse and search surfaces, and old videos keep accumulating views for years. A subscriber denominator would score a channel on its back catalogue rather than on the video you are measuring. Views is what YouTube Studio reports per video, so it is what this tool uses.
What is a good YouTube engagement rate?
Against views, likes plus comments commonly land somewhere between 1% and 6%. Published benchmarks disagree with each other because they use different denominators and different samples, so treat any single figure you read as one methodology's answer, not the answer. Comments in particular vary enormously by format: a tutorial gets a fraction of what a debate video gets.
Why are dislikes not an input?
YouTube stopped showing public dislike counts in late 2021. Your own Studio analytics still report them to you, but nobody can compute a comparable figure for anyone else, so including them would produce a number you could not benchmark against anything.
Do I need an account?
