Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between flipping and rotating?
A flip mirrors the image across an axis, so text reads backwards and a face turns to the other side. A rotation turns the whole frame without mirroring it. Flipping on both axes at once is the one case where the two meet: it produces exactly the same result as rotating 180°.
Does flipping reduce the quality of my image?
The mirroring itself is lossless — the pixels are the same, just read in the opposite order. Quality is only affected by the export format: PNG re-saves them exactly, while JPEG re-encodes and adds a small amount of loss.
Will my transparent background survive?
With PNG output, yes — the alpha channel is written straight through. Choose JPEG and it will not, because JPEG has no transparency at all; those pixels get filled in. The tool warns you before that happens if it detects transparency in your file.
Why would I flip an image for social media?
Two common reasons. Selfie cameras mirror the preview but save the unmirrored frame, so the photo looks wrong to the person in it — flipping horizontally restores what they saw. And when you are building a carousel or a paired layout, mirroring one image makes the subjects face each other instead of both facing the same way.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
