What is a good Instagram engagement rate?
Against a follower denominator, most published studies put typical accounts somewhere between 0.5% and 3%, with smaller accounts sitting higher than large ones. Published benchmarks disagree with each other because they use different denominators and different samples, so treat any single figure you read as one methodology's answer, not the answer. The bands in this tool are ranges for that reason.
Should I divide by followers or by reach?
Both are defensible and they give very different numbers. Followers is the comparable figure, because everyone has it and it is what benchmark studies use. Reach flatters you, sometimes by a factor of five, because Instagram shows a post to a fraction of your followers. This tool divides by followers; if you use reach, say so whenever you quote the number.
Where do I find saves and shares?
Instagram Insights on a professional account reports saves and shares per post alongside likes and comments. Personal accounts do not get them, which is why many engagement calculators quietly leave them out and report a lower number than yours.
