Bluesky’s own app is built for posting now, not later. If you want a queue, that comes from a tool connecting to it.
The good news is that Bluesky is built on an open protocol, so third-party access is straightforward in a way it isn’t everywhere else.
What Bluesky accepts
Note: The limits below were verified against the AT Protocol lexicons, Bluesky’s own schema definitions, on 29 August 2026. Check the lexicons if precision matters.
| Post length | 300 characters |
| Images per post | Up to 4 |
| Threads | Supported |
| Alt text | No length limit in the protocol |
Through BulkPublish, the media rules are:
- Images: up to 4 per post, 10 MB each, JPG, PNG or WebP
- Video: 1 per post, up to 100 MB and 60 seconds, MP4
Scheduling one
- Connect your Bluesky account
- Write the post, watching the 300-character counter
- Pick a date and time
- Queue it
Because the character limit is enforced while you type, a post that would be rejected is caught before it’s queued rather than failing when it tries to publish.
Threads
Bluesky supports threads, and they’re often the right answer to the 300-character limit. Rather than compressing an idea into 300 characters or dropping it, break it into linked posts.
Two things worth doing:
Make the first post work alone. It’s the one most people see. If it only makes sense as an introduction to the rest, most readers get nothing.
Don’t thread out of habit. A three-post thread that could have been one post is worse than the one post. Thread when the idea genuinely needs the room.
Cross-posting to Bluesky
Most people posting to Bluesky also post to X, Threads or Mastodon. The formats are close enough that the same text often works across all four, which makes this one of the easier cross-posting groups.
The one thing to watch is length, because the limits differ:
| Platform | Limit |
|---|---|
| X | 280 |
| Bluesky | 300 |
| Threads | 500 |
| Mastodon | 500 |
Write to the tightest limit in your set and it works everywhere. Write to 500 and it needs trimming for two of them.
Scheduling Bluesky alongside everything else
BulkPublish publishes to Bluesky and 14 other networks: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Discord, Telegram, Tumblr and Snapchat.
- Channels: Free: 3 (1 per platform). Pro: 30 (2 per platform). Business: 75 (5 per platform).
- Posts: Free: 3/day. Pro: 30/day. Business: unlimited.
- Storage: Free: 100 MB. Pro: 2 GB. Business: 10 GB.
Bluesky is available on the free plan, so you can queue real posts to it without paying.
The short version
Bluesky has no native scheduler, so it comes from a third-party tool. Posts are 300 characters with up to 4 images, threads are supported, and alt text has no protocol limit so there’s no excuse not to write it. If you’re also on X, Threads or Mastodon, write to 280 and one draft covers all four.
