Telegram channels are a broadcast surface: you post, subscribers receive it. That makes them a natural fit for scheduling, since there’s no feed algorithm to time around, just your audience’s attention.
How the connection works
Telegram doesn’t use OAuth the way most social platforms do. Publishing to a channel goes through a bot that you add to the channel as an administrator with permission to post.
Two practical consequences.
Setup is a little different. You’re not clicking “log in with Telegram”, you’re giving a bot posting rights in your channel. It takes a couple of extra minutes the first time.
Posts come from the channel, not from you personally. That’s how Telegram channels work generally, so it matches expectations, but it’s worth knowing if you were imagining posting as yourself.
What Telegram accepts
Through BulkPublish:
| Post length | 4,096 characters |
| Images | Up to 10, 5 MB each, JPG, PNG or WebP |
| Video | Up to 20 MB, MP4 |
Two of those numbers deserve comment.
4,096 characters is a lot. Telegram is one of the more generous platforms for text, so a post written for a short network will look sparse here. If Telegram matters to you, it’s worth writing a longer version rather than sending the 280-character one.
20 MB for video is tight. This is the limit that catches people out, and it’s much smaller than the video allowances on most networks. A short clip off a phone can exceed it easily. If video is central to what you post on Telegram, compress before uploading or expect rejections.
Scheduling one
- Add the bot to your channel as an admin with posting rights
- Connect the channel
- Write the post
- Attach media, keeping video under 20 MB
- Pick a date and time and queue it
Media rules are checked before the post is queued, so an oversized video is caught in the composer rather than failing when it tries to publish.
Telegram alongside other platforms
Telegram tends to sit oddly in a cross-posting set, because its text allowance is so much larger than the short-text networks and its audience is usually there for a specific reason: updates, a community, a product.
The approach that works is to treat Telegram as its own version rather than a copy. Same underlying content, written to actually use the space. A tool that lets you edit per platform from one draft makes this cheap, and a tool that only broadcasts identical text makes Telegram the platform that always looks under-served.
Scheduling Telegram alongside everything else
BulkPublish publishes to Telegram and 14 other networks: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Discord, Tumblr and Snapchat.
- Channels: Free: 3 (1 per platform). Pro: 30 (2 per platform). Business: 75 (5 per platform).
- Posts: Free: 3/day. Pro: 30/day. Business: unlimited.
The short version
Connect a bot with posting rights in your channel rather than logging in as yourself. You get 4,096 characters, up to 10 images, and a tight 20 MB video cap that’s the main thing to watch. Write a longer version for Telegram rather than sending it the short one.
