How to Schedule Threads Posts (2026)

What Threads accepts, how to queue posts and threads in advance, and how it compares to the other short-text networks you are probably also posting to.

Threads is easy to keep up with until you are also on X, Bluesky and Mastodon and doing the same thing four times. Most of this page is about not doing that.

Steps

  1. Connect your Threads account under Channels.
  2. Open the composer and select Threads.
  3. Write the post, up to 500 characters. Attach images or a video if you want them.
  4. Pick the date, time and time zone, then press Schedule.

The character counter and the media checks run in the editor, so an over-length post or a file Threads would reject is flagged before it is queued.

Writing once for four networks

Threads, X, Bluesky and Mastodon take near-identical text, so one draft usually covers all four. The limits are what differ.

You have two approaches:

  • Write to 280. It publishes everywhere unchanged, at the cost of being terser than Threads needs.
  • Write the fuller version for Threads and Mastodon, then trim a shorter one for X and Bluesky. This is better and takes about a minute longer.

A composer that lets you edit per network from one draft is what makes it a minute rather than four separate posts. Select all four, write the long version, then switch to X and Bluesky and shorten.

A routine for the week

  1. Write five or six posts in one sitting.
  2. Spread them across the week at times you are likely to be around to reply.
  3. Put the ones that need a long answer at the start of your most active day.
  4. Check the calendar for gaps.

Threading

Use it when a point needs more than 500 characters. The first post has to work on its own. If an idea fits in one post, leave it in one post.
