Threads is one of the easier networks to keep up with, right until you’re also posting to X, Bluesky and Mastodon and doing the same thing four times.
Here’s what the platform accepts and how to get posts into a queue.
What Threads accepts
Through BulkPublish:
| Post length | 500 characters |
| Post types | Text, Image, Video, Carousel |
| Images | Up to 20 per post, 8 MB each, JPG or PNG |
| Video | Up to 500 MB, MP4 or MOV |
| Threads | Supported |
The 500-character limit is generous compared to X’s 280 and Bluesky’s 300, which matters when you’re writing one post for several networks.
Scheduling one
- Connect your Threads account
- Write the post and attach any media
- Pick a date and time
- Queue it
The character limit is checked as you type, so an over-length post is caught in the editor rather than failing at publish time. The same goes for media: a file the platform would reject is flagged before the post is queued.
Threading
Threads supports linked posts, and the mechanics are the same as anywhere else: the first post has to work on its own, because it’s the one that gets seen.
At 500 characters the pressure to thread is lower than on X or Bluesky. If an idea fits in one post, leave it in one post.
Writing once for four networks
Threads, X, Bluesky and Mastodon are close enough in format that one draft usually works across all four. The limits are what differ:
| Platform | Limit |
|---|---|
| X | 280 |
| Bluesky | 300 |
| Threads | 500 |
| Mastodon | 500 |
Two approaches. Write to 280 and it publishes everywhere unchanged, at the cost of being terser than Threads needs. Or write the fuller version for Threads and Mastodon and trim a shorter one for X and Bluesky.
The second is better and takes about a minute longer. A tool that lets you edit per platform from one draft is what makes it a minute rather than four separate posts.
Scheduling Threads alongside everything else
BulkPublish publishes to Threads and 14 other networks: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Bluesky, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Discord, Telegram, Tumblr and Snapchat.
- Channels: Free: 3 (1 per platform). Pro: 30 (2 per platform). Business: 75 (5 per platform).
- Posts: Free: 3/day. Pro: 30/day. Business: unlimited.
- Storage: Free: 100 MB. Pro: 2 GB. Business: 10 GB.
The short version
Threads takes 500 characters, up to 20 images or a video, and supports threading. If you’re also on X, Bluesky or Mastodon, write one draft and trim it for the tighter limits rather than composing four times.
