Steps for a single post
- Connect your X account under Channels.
- Open the composer and select X.
- Write the post. The counter stops you at 280.
- Attach up to 4 images, or one video of 140 seconds or less.
- Pick the date, time and time zone, then press Schedule.
Steps for a thread
- Write the first post and make it work alone. It is the one that gets shown.
- Add the next posts in order. Each is counted against 280 separately.
- Read the whole thing top to bottom once. Cut any post that only repeats the one before.
- Schedule the thread as one item.
A thread that could have been one post should be one post.
Checklist before you press Schedule
- Any video is 140 seconds or less. Cut an X-length version rather than finding out at the scheduled minute.
- Mentions are the right handle for X, since handles differ per network.
- No post in a thread depends on the reader having seen a reply elsewhere.
- The time is the one you meant, in the time zone shown.
Writing one draft for four networks
Write to 280 and the same text publishes unchanged to Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon. If you want fuller versions for the networks with 500, keep the X version short and edit the others per platform in the same composer.
