Different Captions for Each Social Network in 2026 [Updated Guide]

One post rarely reads right everywhere. What works on LinkedIn is too stiff for X, and what fits X is too short for Instagram. Rather than writing the same words for every network or opening a second post to say it differently, BulkPublish lets you change the wording per network from the same screen, so it stays one post in the queue and on the calendar, going to every channel you picked.

Updated October 2026. The plan allowances and networks below are read from the app itself every time this site is built.

How per-platform captions work

Under the main caption, each connected network gets its own version you can edit or leave matching the original. Media and per-network options can differ too, so an Instagram version can carry a square crop while the LinkedIn version keeps the original. Each version is checked against its own network's caption limit before the post is queued, and a preview shows each version the way that network will actually display it.

  1. Write the post once and pick the channels it goes to.
  2. Open a network's tab to give it its own wording: keep LinkedIn professional, cut X down to fit, add hashtags for Instagram.
  3. Check the preview for each network and adjust media or options where they need to differ.
  4. Queue the post. Each version is checked against its own network's limit first, and it still counts as one post in the queue and on the calendar.

Networks this works on

This capability is not limited to a subset. It works the same way on all 15 networks BulkPublish publishes to, and each one has a guide of its own.

What each plan is allowed

Per-platform captions are on every plan with no allowance of its own, and the feature is also available over the API.

Working with AI agents

An assistant connected to BulkPublish can draft a network-appropriate version of a caption for each platform in one pass, rather than writing one caption and hoping it fits everywhere.

BulkPublish runs a hosted MCP server, so an AI assistant can do this work with you instead of you copying its answer into another tab. It exposes 20 tools over OAuth: an agent can see your channels, draft a post, put it in the queue, publish it and read the numbers back afterwards. Nothing to install, no API key to paste.

Tools worth connecting

BulkPublish already talks to these, and each one has a setup guide.

Common questions

Does writing a different caption per network create a second post?

No. It stays one post in the queue and on the calendar, going to every channel you picked, just with different wording per network.

Are the caption limits different per network?

Yes, each version is checked against its own network's limit before the post is queued: for example X is 280 characters, Bluesky 300, Threads 500, Instagram 2,200 and LinkedIn 3,000.

Do links count differently on some networks?

Yes. On X and Mastodon, every link counts as 23 characters against that network's limit regardless of its actual length.

Can I use different media or options per network too?

Yes. Media and per-network options can differ per network, and a preview shows each version the way that network will display it.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it does not ask for a card. The table above shows what the free plan is allowed for this capability, and the pricing page lists the rest.

Can an AI assistant do this for me?

Yes. The hosted MCP server lets an assistant draft, schedule, publish and read your analytics over OAuth, with nothing to install and no key to paste.
